My Thoughts On Comments

I recently wrote a blog titled “My Controversy” where I talked about Tom Brady and deflated football controversy. The article that I referenced was written by Fox News, and at the end of the article has the option for readers to express their opinions in the comments section.

Some comments showed credibility while others lacked credibility, here are two that lacked credibility.

This commenter seems to be expressing a fear, he is most likely not a Patriots fan and therefore he is ridiculing them because he fears that they will be better than the team that he is a fan of. This commenter holds beliefs that are morally right and ones that are not willing to put up with the excess associated with the NFL. This comment lacks credibility because he calls Tom Brady a cheater even though he went through the supreme court system and was found to be innocent. There was no evidence to convict him yet this commenter is ignorant to see that.

This commenter is most likely expressing anxiety about the Patriots. He feels that Brady should be on a suspension and because he is not suspended he is anxious about the season and the direction that the league is moving. This commenter believes that Brady should be suspended although there is no evidence to support his claim. This comment lacks credibility to me because our society is run off of a fair court system and Tom Brady went through this system and was found innocent. There is no evident to support this commenters claim.

Here are two comments that do have some credibility to them.

Simington, Carter. "Screenshot". 9/4/2015

This commenter is expressing fear because he knows that ones who cheat seemingly always have an upper hand. I can tell this because he is expressing hatred towards the team and demeaning them to justify his claim. This person believes that the Patriots team creates an environment that promotes its teammates and its staff to cheat. This commenter comes off as reasonable because the Patriots have been caught for cheating in the past.

This commenter is expressing fear. He/she realizes that people who have a lot of money also have a lot of power. He/she fears that our nation could become corrupt by those who simply have a lot of money. This person believes that Tom is guilty of deflating the balls but was proved innocent in the court because he had a lot of money to protect him. I see validity in this comment because I know that ones who carry a lot of money also carry a voice and a lot of power. I see it as a very reasonable scenario that Brady was able to cover up his wrongdoing with his money.

  1. I agree that commenters commenting on sports tend to share their opinions based on team preference rather than tanking in account the actual facts of the controversy at hand. However, I don't necessarily agree that the "cheaters gonna cheat" comment is credible, as the commenter was naming the Patriots as cheaters in general rather than discussing Tom Brady's involvement and the facts of the case. Everything else seems right on point though.
