Cultural Analysis of "Why Doctors Are Sick of Their Profession"

In this blog post I will be doing a cultural analysis of the article "Why Doctors Are Sick of Their Profession."

Fae. "Blood test". 12/31/1979. Public Domain.

Three cultural keywords that were used in this article were "doctor", "profession" and "hard". These seem to appear a lot throughout the article as well as capture the essence of it. The author uses the word "doctor" a lot because that is the "profession" that is at hand. The author also uses the word "hard" as well as other words throughout the article to give sense of what the profession is really about. She describes it as hard and because of that there are a lot of doctors that don't enjoy their job.

The thesis of this article is that there is so much for doctors to handle that many of them do not enjoy their job. It isn't a question as to whether or not becoming a doctor is a hard feat. There are a lot of prerequisites that are required for this profession.

The key words that were used do relate back to the thesis. He talks about the weight that the title "doctor" carries in this day and age and how it is a very noble "profession", but then argues that this is a common misconception seeing that many doctors are unhappy with their job. He talks about how many people wish to become doctors yet only the top of the class can make it. Then he talks about how "hard" the profession actually is once you finally make it there. He then links all of these back to his thesis of how becoming a doctor isn't the best job because many doctors are unhappy.
